Most of our top Brand Advocates didn't quit their day job to start. They built the consultancy on the side first, often for 12 to 18 months, before deciding whether to make it primary. Here's how that actually works.
The realistic time commitment
5–8 hours a week is enough to run a part-time consultancy at the Brand Advocate level. That looks like:
- 2 hours of customer conversations (often via WhatsApp)
- 1–2 hours of content (one or two pieces a week)
- 1 hour of routine planning for active customers
- 1–2 hours of personal product use (you can't sell what you don't use)
Why wellness fits well alongside a day job
- Time-shifting: most customer conversations happen on evenings and weekends, when you're free anyway.
- Asynchronous: messaging-based commerce means you don't need to be online at the same time as your customers.
- Compounding content: a post you wrote in 2025 still attracts customers in 2027.
- Network alignment: your existing colleagues, gym friends, and parent groups are often the best initial customers.
What to expect in the first 90 days
Most part-time Brand Advocates spend the first 90 days doing two things: using the products themselves so they can speak from experience, and having low-pressure conversations with their existing network. The financial trajectory varies enormously based on your existing audience and effort, so we won't quote numbers here — but the operational workload is genuinely manageable alongside a 9-to-5.
Singapore-specific considerations
- Tax: side income from NTX is taxable. Keep simple records — the NTXBiz app provides monthly statements you can hand to your accountant.
- Employment contracts: review your current employer's moonlighting clause. Most allow it; some require disclosure.
- CPF: side income doesn't typically attract CPF unless structured through a registered company. Talk to a tax advisor if your earnings grow.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to register a company? Not at first. You can operate as a sole proprietor receiving commissions. If your income grows materially, registering a private limited may make tax sense.
Can I do this from Malaysia and serve Singapore customers? NTXBiz operates separate SG and MY entities — your contract follows your region of residence, but your customers can be anywhere shipping is supported.
What's the smallest commitment that still works? Three to four hours a week is workable for partners with strong existing networks. Below that, you may not see meaningful traction.
